RIPTIDE ADD WEST COAST SAVVY TO OWNERSHIP GROUP
The Vancouver Riptide are pleased to announce that Joshua Perina has joined the Ownership group and will assume the role of Club President effective immediately. In addition Colby James Smith will join the team as Vice President of Operations. Perina and Smith will lead the sales, marketing and promotion efforts for the team as they prepare for their fifth season in the American Ultimate Disc League.
“With Josh, we have found the West Coast local presence that we have been searching for” said Jim Lloyd, Managing Partner of the Riptide. “Josh is an Ultimate person, he understands what makes our sport great and also brings a proven successful business record to our Ownership group.” added Lloyd
“I am excited to be joining the Riptide to help shape the future of this franchise and the AUDL. As a passionate, long term player of the sport I will be actively promoting the richness, diversity and spirit of Ultimate as it evolves into the professional era.” said Perina.
The Riptide are actively planning for the 2018 season and will be announcing Open Tryout dates, Coaching staff and Marketing Initiatives over the next few weeks. The team will be focused on building a roster that will compete for a playoff spot next season and re-establish Vancouver as a lead market in the AUDL West Division.
Joshua Perina is CEO and Founder of Elastic Email (http://elasticemail.com) and an avid Ultimate player for almost 20 years. Elastic Email is a successful, fast growing, seven year old company providing programmable email marketing and delivery services for thousands of clients from around the world. Before founding Elastic Email Joshua lived, worked and played Ultimate outside of Canada on several continents for more than 10 years. He has played Ultimate competitively since returning to Canada 8 years ago. Joshua lives in Victoria BC and is an active and integrated member of the Ultimate community on the West Coast of Canada.
Colby James Smith is president and owner of LRE Technologies Inc.; a Victoria B.C. based software development and services company. Colby has been playing competitive Ultimate for over 20 years at National and Worlds level. Most recently Colby was Captain of Team Canada GGM for Beach Worlds in Dubai 2015. His education is in Math, Physics and Computer Science and has many years of career experience with the silicon valley start-up tech sector. He lives in Victoria with his two daughters, his partner and her daughter and is an active player and supporter of the west coast and local ultimate community.
The American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL) is the premier professional ultimate frisbee league in the United States and Canada. The fastest growing sport and professional league on the continent, the AUDL is broadcast live weekly on AUDL.TV/Live throughout the summer months, showcasing the best athletes in the sport to an international audience. During the 2018 season, each of the league’s 24 teams will play 14 regular-season games to determine which is eligible for the playoffs.
