Vancouver Riptide Announce 2016 Roster
By Scott Lewis
This is going to be an interesting season for the Vancouver Riptide of AUDL..
After finishing last in the Western Division last year with a record of four wins and ten losses, the team underwent an off-season rebuild, both off the field and on. Part of that renewal involved bringing in veterans like Brendan Wong, Morgan Hibbert, and Anatoly Vasilyev, but there is also a fresh crop of promising youngsters like Ari Nitikman, Jordan Dhillon, and William Vu to supplement a core of proven returnees like Gagandeep Chatha, Peter Yu, Kevin Underhill, and Joel Bellavance.
The roster looks deep, with skill from top to bottom, and it will have to be, given that a number of players will miss games in June due to national team duty at the WFDF World Ultimate and Guts Championships in London.
“The tryouts were very competitive and I am very happy with the 30 players we have signed, a nice mix of veterans and up and coming talent,” said GM Brian Gisel. “The extra veterans we have added will help the team to win the close games we lost last year, and the youngsters will inject physicality and enthusiasm. We know we’ll be in tough for a few games in June due to so many of our players having national team duties, but with the depth we have on our roster we should be just fine.”
