TIM LAVIS- A PROVEN INTERNATIONAL ULTIMATE STAR FROM DOWN UNDER

Tim started playing in 2001, and since then has lived and breathed ultimate and hasn’t stopped.

From Newcastle, Australia (about 2 hrs north of Sydney), Tim played for Newcastle University

and Newcastle Mixed and Open teams. Newcastle is a developing ultimate centre, and has

always had to fight for a chance to be competitive with the more successful teams from

Australia’s capital cities, especially Sydney and Melbourne. Success came gradually to the

Newcastle scene, the University team won the Australian University Championships in 2004. In

2006 he led the Newcastle Mixed team that took out the Australian Mixed title in an upset victory,

defeating teams that later in the year were to participate in the World Club Championships in

Perth.

In 2010 his Newcastle Open team, I-Beam, won the Australian Open Championship, with 2

double game point victories in the semi-final and the final to take the title. Later in the same year

Tim’s mixed team, Pie Wagon’ competed in the World Club Championships in Prague, placing

5th.

In 2008 and 2012 Tim was selected on the Australian Open team, the Dingoes, to play in the

World Championships in Vancouver and Sakai respectively. Both campaigns ended frustratingly,

most notably dramatic loss to the United States in 2012

Tim was an obvious choice to join the bronze medal winning Australian World Games team in

2009 and went on to Captain the Aussies in 2013 in Colombia, winning a silver medal. In addition

to his extensive experience with the National teams in Autralia, Tim managed to squeeze in a

season of club Ultimate as a key member of Truckstop in the 2011.

The entire Riptide organization is thrilled to have Tim leading our players on and off the field for

our inaugural season.
